Meeko

Meeko was pulled from an extremely overcrowded shelter in November.  Because the shelter was so overfilled, the euthanizing date was drawing near :(  Luckily, a couple of us stopped by and saved this sweet little girl.

Meeko is approximately 6 months old and weighs 18 pounds.  She has a pretty, fluffy white coat and unique markings, including gray spots on her body and dark brown around her eyes.  It's easy to see why they called her Speck at the shelter.  We named her Meeko because her dark-rimmed eyes reminded my husband of a little raccoon  (you know, like the one from Pocahontas?) She also has the most adorable big, soft ears that are a beautiful brown/gray merle color.  It's these ears that have led us to believe she is probably a mix of blue heeler/Australian cattle dog along with jack russell terrier.

Meeko is a pretty mellow girl to be a terrier.  She likes to play fight with our other dog, but after a few minutes Meeko is ready for a nap!  She absolutely loves being scratched on the belly and behind the ears, and she makes us melt with her big brown eyes.  She also loves exploring and gets excited when it's time to go outside for a walk on her leash.  Overall, she is just a really sweet puppy who loves companionship.  She wags her tail so hard her whole body moves from side to side when she meets someone new :)

We are working on house training and crate training, and Meeko is making big progress with both.  She is sleeping through the night in her crate.  She's also been spayed and is up to date on all of her shots.  If you or anyone you know would be interested in giving this sweet girl a forever home, please contact her foster mom, Ali, at saveourshelterdogs5@yahoo.com.  We would love to set up a time for you to meet Meeko in person, and, once you do, she'll capture your heart just like she has ours!

Welcome to our blog!

Save Our Shelter Dogs is a small group of dedicated volunteers based in the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area.  For over a year, we have been focusing on pulling dogs from shelters when their euthanization date looms near and then fostering these sweet animals in our homes until they find their forever families.  We have many happy "tails" of dogs who have found loving homes.  The shelters in our area are sadly still filled to capacity and beyond, however, so we continue working to save lives, one dog at a time.

This blog was created as just one more way to spread our message and publicize the dogs we have available for adoption.  We will also let you know about our upcoming events.  You can also visit our Petfinder page or our Facebook profile.  We cannot exist without those who have supported us through our fundraisers and the adoptive families who have been willing to open their hearts to our deserving dogs.  Please consider adopting through us if you are looking for a new addition to your family, and help us to spread the word to anyone you know who is thinking about getting a dog!  If you'd like to help us out, we do accept monetary donations and donations of supplies.  For more information, please contact us at one of the following email addresses:  saveourshelterdogs1@yahoo.com, saveourshelterdogs2@yahoo.com, and saveourshelterdogs5@yahoo.com.

Thank you for stopping by!  Please continue to follow us and look forward to updates in the next few days on the dogs we are currently fostering :)
